Spinal Disc Decompression, A Deeper Understanding

deeper understanding of spinal disc decompression

Last week we discussed spinal disc decompression in terms of how it feels. Ready to get your feet wet? Today we’re going to get a bit deeper!

SPINE PAIN & RADIATING PAIN

Back pain comes in many forms, but the most intense pains often include some type of disc or nerve injury. You may have experienced the type of *sharp* pain in your spine that drops you to the floor or makes it hard to move at all. This severe pain will sometimes spread into the arms or legs, causing radiating pain or even ~numbness~ into the hands and feet.

Such pains may come from a herniated disc, degenerative disc syndrome, or a sprain or tear of the outer annular wall of the disc. A patient’s symptoms may be further intensified by stenosis, a condition where there is a smaller area for the spinal cord or spinal nerves because of inflammation, disc bulging/herniation, or encroachment of bone into the area.

HOW CAN DECOMPRESSION HELP ME?

Spinal decompression is an advanced modality used to relieve pain through decompression of spinal structures. It enhances healing and promotes diffusion or osmosis of nutrients into the spinal discs.

Decompression at the Intervertebral Disc

This life-changing therapy can reduce the size of herniated discs, decrease referred pain generated from the disc, and also help to enlarge the intervertebral foramen (the tunnel where nerves leave the spinal cord).

Our bodies often respond well to a multi-focal treatment plan. A synergistic approach that involves spinal decompression along with chiropractic manipulation, soft tissue work, ultrasound therapy, or cold laser treatment.

WHY CHOOSE FAVERO CHIROPRACTIC?

A disc compression syndrome will impair motion and reduce your ability to perform some of your normal activities. As part of your treatment plan for recovery, we work with you to reduce pain while increasing function. We teach you spinal exercises in conjunction with mechanical traction to provide further stabilization and rehabilitation.

Dr. Jeff Favero has had extensive experience and training in the use of spinal disc decompression. He is fully certified in the Kennedy Decompression Technique and is prepared with a long-term solution to your daily problems. As a KDT Certified Practitioner, he is equipped to help you find relief and do more of what you like to do.
