Speed Up Healing with Cold Laser Treatment (PART 1)

fast headlights, cold laser therapy chiropractic

At Favero Chiropractic we have many fancy tools to help speed up the healing of your body and get you feeling better. Among these is a highly powerful treatment option called cold laser therapy.

WHAT IS LASER THERAPY

Phototherapy is the use of a therapeutic physical modality using photons of light from the visible red to the infrared spectrum for tissue healing and pain reduction. It involves the application of specific wavelengths of light energy capable of penetrating into tissue and being absorbed by cells. Light energy can be produced by low level laser therapy (LLLT) and/or superluminous diodes (SLDs).

In our clinic we use LLLT, or “low level laser therapy”. It is commonly called “cold laser” since it is not a hot laser that has to be moved constantly to prevent burning.

WHY IS IT CALLED “COLD” LASER

The type of lasers you may first think of are the “James Bond lasers” that cut through walls and people! They are the hot lasers used surgically for cutting, heating and tissue destruction; even wrinkle and tattoo removal. Those are referred to as high power lasers, and have an energy output of 3,000 – 10,000 mW.

Low level lasers, on the other hand, have an energy output of 1-500 mW. This does not result in tissue destruction, so can safely be used in wound healing and pain management. It is also called cold laser, soft laser, biostimulation, and low energy photon therapy.

WILL IT HURT?

Do lasers sound a little scary? Be assured this therapy will be completely safe and comfortable. You may feel a little warmth at times or a slight nerve tingling sensation when it connects with a nerve just right. Most people don’t feel anything except how much better they feel after the therapy is finished. It often brings quite immediate results.
