“I have bad posture.” Why do you think people tell me this all the time? When someone finds out what I do for a living, I can see the wheels turning in their head and I can feel them notice the pains in their neck or back. What a flattering effect to have on a person – just the fact that I’m a chiropractor makes them start feeling all their pains!
But why do their thoughts so quickly turn to their posture?
There is a lot of go, go, go nowadays, but it is when we stop that we notice what’s wrong. It is usually just our minds that are keeping so busy. Once the mind gets a breather, the body gets its voice back.
Our modern culture constantly puts us in situations where our spine is put to the test. We let our mind be still for a few minutes and quickly find out how weak our endurance muscles are, how unstable our neck is, and the weak spots along the length of our back.
While we sit in the car or stand in line at the store. Waiting for the computer at work or enduring evening commercials from our couch. Kinking our neck to look down at Facebook on our phones. How is our posture during these everyday moments?
So people ask questions like: Why am I hurting? Where is my injury? What did I do to cause this pain?
The question you should really be asking is: “When am I seeing my chiropractor?”
