There are many different causes for vertigo, dizziness, or imbalance. You may feel like the room is spinning, or that you may faint, or simply a little lightheaded. You may be unable to maintain your balance and have difficulty walking or doing your normal daily routines.
VERTIGO
Commonly patients will have an ear problem that can be resolved with chiropractic treatment. Small crystals within the inner ear, called otoliths, can become dislodged. They are one of the places responsible for helping our brain differentiate up from down and determine where we are positioned. As we move, these crystals will bounce around in the semicircular canals of the inner ear and confuse our brain – causing dizziness or vertigo.
This condition is called BPV, benign positional vertigo. A chiropractor discovered a solution for this problem and created a protocol to return the crystals to their normal position. Dr. Favero has helped many patients over the years using this procedure.
CERVICOGENIC DIZZINESS (CAUSED BY THE NECK)
The nerves and joints of the neck can also cause dizziness. This may have come upon you slowly or it may have been due to a recent injury, like falling on the ice or from whiplash in an auto or car accident. Chiropractors address the nerves, muscles, ligaments, and joints that are damaged with such trauma to bring you back to a state of wellness. Treatment to the neck can sometimes bring immediate relief.
OTHER CAUSES OF DIZZINESS AND VERTIGO
Your dizziness or vertigo may be a problem in the neck, brain, ears, or associated with diet, physical activity, and age. Less commonly it can be secondary to another health condition or disease.
