Start Your Day With These Back Stretches

Did you know one of the best things you can do for your back is to start your day with some stretches? Try these 3 simple stretches recommended by your chiropractor in Ogden, Utah. Also check out these stretches for the neck and upper back: see our post here.


The following is a group of mobilizing and stretching exercises designed to increase the range of motion in your back and legs. If the exercise causes pain, it is recommended that you start more gently and with fewer repetitions. If any serious pains, discontinue and consult your doctor of chiropractic. (Hold for 10 seconds each, Repeat each stretch 3 times)

1. Lie flat on your back. Slowly raise one leg while attempting not to bend at the knee. If you can reach, place your hands behind the leg to pull it a little farther. Repeat with opposite leg.

2. Lie on your back and bring left leg up, bending at the knee. Reach to the outside of the left knee with your right hand and slowly pull the knee across your body towards the right side. Repeat with right leg.

3. Start on your stomach and raise your upper body to rest on your elbows, creating an extension in the lower back. The elbows should be at 90 degrees so they are directly below the shoulders. You may also go further if comfortable, by pressing up with your hands, palms facing down.
