Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound is by far the most widely used physical agent in physical medicine and rehabilitation. In addition to decreasing pain, it can increase local blood flow, tissue metabolism, enzyme activity, and decrease tension in tissues by making them thinner and more flexible. Some heat is felt during this therapy because energy is transferred to the surrounding tissues. The depth of the ultrasound can vary depending on the tissues, but can travel as deep as 5 centimeters.
